Exclusions and specialist requirements
New plaster needs time to dry before decorating — typically several days to a few weeks depending on thickness and ventilation. Where damp has caused the damage, the source of the damp must be resolved first or the new plaster will fail. Artex applied before the mid-1980s can contain asbestos and may need testing before disturbance.
Frequently asked questions
- Can you skim over artex?
- Usually, yes — the artex is scraped back and skimmed over. Older artex may contain asbestos, in which case we advise on testing before any disturbance.
- How soon can I paint new plaster?
- Once it has dried fully — the surface turns from dark to pale. A mist coat of diluted emulsion is then applied before the finish coats.
- Do you do small patch repairs?
- Yes — we happily take on smaller repairs, such as making good after electricians or plumbers, as well as full rooms.
